Pharmacy Hints at New Downtown VyStar Parking Garage | Jax Daily Record | Jacksonville Daily Record

VyStar Credit Union is building a seven-story parking lot at 28 W. Forsyth St. between Main and Laura streets, one block from campus.

At the garage’s grand opening in August 2021, CEO Brian Wolfburg said the organization “didn’t want to build just any parking lot.”

“Downtown Jacksonville is our home and we know investing in Jacksonville’s infrastructure will help it thrive, help it grow,” Wolfburg said.

The garage includes over 12,000 square feet of ground floor retail space.

“There are people we know in this room who are talking about bringing a CVS or a Walgreens,” panelist Laura Phillips Edgecombe said during a discussion after the Jacksonville Women’s Network Feb. 11 tour.

Edgecombe, director of development for advocacy group Build Up Downtown, sat next to Rosalyna Avila, director of commercial property for VyStar.

“Yes, we are trying,” Avila replied.

Avila said after the discussion that VyStar was trying to bring commercial uses to the garage space. She said there was a prospect for the space facing Main Street.

She said the 7,000 square foot space facing Laura Street could be a pharmacy, but there were no confirmed prospects.

Avila followed up on the afternoon of February 11 with an email:

“The Main Street side is expected to have 5,487 square feet of space and the Laura Street side is expected to have approximately 7,385 square feet of retail space. As mentioned, we have a prospect for the Main Street side, but we are still looking for retail vendors for the Laura Street side,” she wrote.

“It would be wonderful to partner with retail organizations that can serve the community and the upcoming Laura Street Trio project.”

The site is opposite the proposed Laura Street Trio retail, hotel, restaurant and apartment development.

She said she could not share information about the tenant of the Main Street space.

The roundtable on the 22nd floor of the VyStar Tower featured Avila; Edgecombe; Briehn Wildman, Senior Interior Designer, RS&H; and Carmen Mantay, vice president of brokerage and international director of real estate company NAI Hallmark.

Based in Jacksonville, RS&H is an architecture, engineering and consulting firm.
