NEWBURYPORT – City Marshal Mark Murray reports that the Newburyport Police Department is actively searching for a suspect involved in a theft this afternoon.

At approximately 2:05 p.m., Newburyport Police responded to CVS, 13 1/2 Pond St., with a theft report.

Upon arrival, police learned that a man had entered the store and approached the pharmacy counter. He allegedly gave the pharmacist a note claiming to have a bomb and demanding prescription drugs. The suspect fled the store with an undisclosed amount of prescription drugs.

The suspect is described as a male in his thirties or forties, measuring approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet and weighing between 160 and 170 pounds. At the time of the theft, he was wearing a bright blue Nike branded hoodie, dark pants, a navy blue baseball cap, gray-colored shoes with white soles, and a light blue surgical mask.

The suspect may be driving an older model blue pickup truck with New Hampshire license plates.
